Snap‑Line45® Evolves: A New Chapter in Standing Seam Performance
By Marcio Da Silva, GM of Architectural Specifications - No.1 Roofing & Building Supplies
Standing seam metal roofing is admired for its clarity, restraint and architectural precision—but anyone who has detailed or delivered these systems knows they demand absolute control. Long runs, high exposure, glossy finishes and imperfect substrates can quickly compromise visual calm through oil canning, clip telegraphing and inconsistent light reflection.
This month, that equation has changed.
No.1 Roofing & Building Supplies has launched a new generation of Snap‑Line45® profile options, marking a significant evolution in how standing seam roofs can be specified and delivered across Australia. Rather than treating oil canning and visual distortion as unavoidable risks, the expanded Snap‑Line45® system actively addresses them—by design.
At the heart of the update is four distinct pan configurations, each engineered to perform under different architectural and site conditions, without compromising the clean, refined aesthetic that designers expect from a standing seam system.
The Classic profile delivers the purest flat-pan expression, ideal where substrate conditions are well controlled and panel lengths are moderate. For more demanding applications, the Next Gen profile introduces a recessed channel at the clip interface—relieving localised stress and significantly reducing clip telegraphing. It has quickly become the recommended all‑round option, particularly for longer panel runs.
For projects pushing visual and technical limits, two Next Gen PLUS options take performance further. The PLUS Beads profile increases pan stiffness through wide swaged beads, offering excellent control of oil canning and substrate variation while maintaining a subtle linear character. Meanwhile, the PLUS Striations profile delivers the highest level of visual stability, using fine linear striations to soften light reflection and maintain consistency across long, high‑exposure roof planes—particularly beneficial on dark colours and gloss finishes.
Why does this matter? Because standing seam roofs are uniquely sensitive to pitch, glare, finish sheen and underlying structure. These new Snap‑Line45® profiles allow architects to respond precisely to those variables—whether on high‑pitch roofs, re‑roofing projects, long-span applications or exposed coastal sites.
Importantly, this isn’t just about aesthetics. By better managing thermal movement and light behaviour, the system produces roofs that look flatter, calmer and more consistent—resulting in better outcomes for clients and fewer compromises for designers.
For the first time, Snap‑Line45® offers a genuine design‑led toolkit for standing seam specification—turning a traditionally risk‑laden element into a controlled, predictable and confidently specifiable system.
For architects who value performance as much as form, this evolution is an exciting step forward.
