HOLIDAY LISTENING FROM BOWERBIRD

We often get asked for our top podcast picks for architects. We have one of our own, so that’s always an easy #1 pick, but we’ve also collected 7 of our favourites tailored to small-practice architects and big thinkers.

There are obviously too many podcasts out there to provide our exhaustive list, but we thought this curated list would give a nice balance of architecture, marketing and creative insight.

  1. BowerBird Podcast
We could hardly start with any other. The BowerBird Podcast is a great overview of the architecture and design publishing landscape, and includes the basics of getting projects published, through to the deeper strategies that will help you stay ahead of the game.

  2. Business of Architecture UK
The younger sibling of The Business of Architecture US (also great), The Business of Architecture UK is hosted by architect Rion Willard. The podcast interviews everyone from architects themselves, through to people in marketing, photography, and all sorts of out-of-the-box thinkers. BowerBird even had a great interview with Rion in 2019. Rion also videos his podcast where he can, which adds an extra dimension for those visual learners.

  3. How I built this
There are so many awesome business podcasts out there, but one of our favourites is ‘How I built This’. Guy Raz dives into the stories behind some of the world's best known companies. How I Built This tells the stories of innovators, entrepreneurs and idealists—and the movements they built. Architects should always be learning from other businesses, and other business models, it’s by listening to how non-architects have built their businesses that architects can truly innovate.

  4. Another Architecture Podcast
This one has rapidly crept into our favourites list. We haven’t come across many podcasts that actually do a deep-dive into projects themselves. This one looks at residential projects, mostly by small-practice architects. In fact, you can reach out to George Bradley (the host) through BowerBird and maybe get your own project featured!

  5. The Futur with Chris Do
Rather than specific to architects, this one is more focused on design practices and freelancers, but we always find lots of intersections there. It’s full of artists, educators, and creatives of all persuasions. This one is really about cross-pollination of ideas.

  6. Marketing in times of Crisis
If you’re looking for something that’s really tackling this issues of marketing today, this is a wonderful podcast targeted specifically at built environment professionals. Marketing In Times Of Crisis is an interview-based podcast featuring inspirational built environment business leaders hosted by marketing consultant Ayo Abbas.

  7. Time Sensitive
Hosted by Spencer Bailey and Andrew Zuckerman this podcast interviews leading minds who have had a profound impact on the fields in which they work. This is a big-picture podcast, designed to make us think about our place in the world, and how we can have a more positive impact as individuals.
