CELEBRATING THE WORK OF MICHELE DE LUCCHI
A renowned designer and architect, Michele De Lucchi has been a prominent figure in the Italian design world since the 1970s, crafting bold, original and sometimes provocative designs throughout his prolific career. With work spanning furniture, decorative objects and lighting, his designs have been manufactured in collaboration with the best of Italy and Europe’s design houses. De Lucchi’s creations are notable for responding to the changing cultural and political conditions of the day, as he routinely questions the status quo, while exploring ways to create a better world and provide happiness.
COLLABORATION WITH VISTOSI
One of De Lucchi’s most famous collaborations has been with premium designer lighting manufacturer, Vistosi. Based in Treviso, Italy, Vistosi sits at the pinnacle of traditional Venetian hand-blown glass craftsmanship, with the company routinely working with the cream of the design world to expand their famed range of lamps and chandeliers.
The company’s fruitful partnership with De Lucchi realised the iconic Vega Table Lamp and Vega Wall Light. Composed of atypical shapes to create a unique form, Vega comes in a neutral white, or two multi-coloured finishes characteristic of the Memphis design phase of the early 80s,which heroed artists and designers known for their bright and bold design. Never one to rest, De Lucchi then revised the Vega in 2007 using contemporary production methods, working with Alberto Nason Design to create a more current style to appeal to the modern audience. In Australia, De Lucchi’s reimagined Vega and other Vistosi products are available through Mondoluce, as well as a range of other exclusive brands from Italy.
DE LUCCHI IN 2023
To this day, De Lucchi’s genius is still on show, with his design of a temporary rooftop art installation creating a showstopping highlight of Milan Design Week in April this year. Dubbed Rosso Maraviglia, the piece was conceived for heritage jewellery brand Buccellati, and featured a striking red dome made of mesh fabric sitting atop the company’s headquarters in central Milan. Apart from drawing eyes from street level up to the top of Buccellati’s five-storey base of operations, the installation was a clever nod to the Buccellati brand, with its inspiration drawn from the faceted prisms of a jewel.
Should you wish to discuss how De Lucchi’s Vega - or our other premium Italian lighting products - could suit your design requirements, Mondoluce’s team of industry experts is now available to provide lighting design consultations to customers in the company’s Sydney and Melbourne showrooms.
