5 QUESTIONS WITH AUSSIE GUTTER PROTECTION

Get to know, one of the ArchiTeam major sponsors Aussie Gutter Protection – their story of personal and commercial growth, industrial expansion and especially, their commitment and long hours

Who are you?

Aussie Gutter Protection is a family owned business operating in Melbourne for the past 17 years. Our founder and Director Brenden Wragg began the company in 2000 out of his family home, extending on his experience within the gutter guard industry itself. For the AGP team, Paul Kelly’s lyrics “From little things, big things grow” resonate strongly with our company’s journey. The first years of operation for Aussie Gutter Protection were out of the front room of Brenden’s young family home. They began with a team of three; Brenden, his wife Mary and an installer Frank, who has recently retired.

The company’s story is that of personal and commercial growth, industrial expansion and especially, commitment and long hours. Fast forward 17 years and Aussie Gutter Protection are now leaders within the gutter guard industry with aspirations to continue growing and expanding interstate. We remain proud of AGP’s humble roots and see them as integral to the values of the business: customer-centred, quality and affordability.

What do you do?

AGP’s expertise resides in the installation of a gutter guard system (also referred to as gutter protection, leaf guard) developed to prevent damage and the inconvenience caused by clogged gutters in residential and commercial buildings. Gutter guard reduce the need for regular gutter cleaning as they help prevent the build-up of leaves and debris, allowing the gutters to maximise water follow and function as they are intended. Our trained installers attach or insert material, as an add-on to an existing exposed gutter system, to prevent debris entry, while allowing water to flow easily through.

Our industry knowledge and expertise allow us to offer a ‘best fit’ solution for older homes, a 100% bird proof solution and provide Bushfire Attack Levels (BAL) rated products to new homes to meet government standards for bush fire-rated areas. Our expanding portfolio of work includes 1000’s of domestic gutter protection and bird proofing installations to homes across Victoria extending into all regions of Australia.  Other gutter guards and bird proofing installations include government buildings, private schools and factories. Most commercial sites are not straightforward and require industry knowledge to find a solution that will protect or seal gutters to prevent flooding or birds and vermin from nesting under roofs.

Something we are especially proud of is our WRITTEN, 10-year workmanship guarantee and we are proud of the fact we have NEVER had a material warranty claim in our 17 years of business. We feel this attests to our commitment to using good quality products and offering a reliable service.

What has been the scariest/courageous thing you have ever done?

For Brenden, starting Aussie Gutter Protection with his wife, Mary kept him awake many a night. In the beginning, he remembers spending every day on the road promoting and quoting houses, while at nights he drove trucks; “It was tough because I had a very young family at home, four children by then. I had minimal experience in managing a company, and I wasn’t only managing it I was doing the lot”.  However, more recently Brenden’s daughter was in a severe car accident that has left her with extensive brain damage. For Brenden, the most important thing in his life is his family, and this has been a massive personal and business drive for him.

Who do you admire and why?

As a business owner, Brenden admires the tenacity of Richard Branson and can empathise with his story, as a typical battler come successful businessman. He is captured by the incredibly general business philosophies of the Virgin business model, while also their sense of responsibility to give back through their humanitarian efforts. He feels he has learnt and continues to learn a lot from Richard’s success as he jokes that “his books are one of the only books I can finish”.
